Matthew 25 and Judgment

Matthew 25 and Judgment

Jesus will return, ALL the dead will be gathered with the living, ALL will be individually judged. This picture shows the absolute need of holiness and renewal of one’s character. We are to put off worldly patterns of character and walk as Jesus gives us both an example and instructions.

The DOING of these things does NOT undo any sinful acts / behaviors, (i.e., the doing of a good work does not in itself give failure for any sinful acts), but the failure to be making such changes to the best of our opportunities and abilities is basis of condemnation! There is the good news that such failure can be forgiven by the grace of God. Yet, such forgiveness isn’t automatic or without conditions. We are instructed to ‘not sin’ (1 John 2:1, and a multitude of other passages concerning living the new life in Jesus). Yet John affirmed in this passage that Jesus is the propitiation for such sin. Earlier he instructed that we are to confess such transgression. Peter instructed Simon to ‘repent and pray’ that he might be forgiven (Acts 8:22-23).

Such is a continuous aspect of walking in the light. Those who do not live in such a new life will be condemned. Such judgment and condemnation will be made by Jesus who is to be the judge of the living and the dead.

For those who hear Jesus’ declaration of “well done, thou faithful servant”, they will recognize that, having done what they could do, they were yet unworthy servants that were FORGIVEN by the grace of God. (cp. Luke 17:10).

Are you preparing for such a judgment day?
