Let’s Kill Him Again - John 12

Let’s Kill Him Again - John 12

With the raising of Lazarus, there came a ground swell of Jesus followers. This fueled the hatred of those who were opposing Jesus. If they let it go…  Well, in spite of their plans an schemes, Lazarus lived on. (I wish we had the story of the rest of his life, but that does not exist).

How to respond to such a miracle – live and walking among them? Let’s kill him again!  (cp. John 12:10-11).And along with it, lets kill Jesus who started this whole thing! While we do not have the story o Lazarus, we do have the story of Jesus!

“Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.  "But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.” (Acts 2:22-24)

As they feared, the story spread and the followers of Jesus multiplied! John included this plan against Lazarus as well as the story of his resurrection by Jesus! Why? “Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name…” (John 20:30-31).

Such stories are the basis of our trust in Jesus as our savior. Are you trusting Jesus?
