Are You The King - Mark 15
Are You The King - Mark 15
Mark 15:2 Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He *answered him, "It is as you say."
Notice the answer Jesus gives. This is a figure of speech that is somewhat difficult to translate. In this situation the shortest translation would be ‘Yes’ or “You are correct.” Check other translations.
But even this is an ‘understatement’, for Jesus is Ruler of the kings of the earth. (Rev. 1:5); King of the nations (Rev. 15:3); King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev. 17:4; 19:16).
His authority is over the whole universe and all of the world. When people become disciples, they are said to be translated into His kingdom (Col. 1:13), and thus are made collectively into a kingdom (Rev. 1:6, 9). But this is a kingdom without ‘boundaries’ as it includes people from all nations, both ancient and contemporary.
Making Jesus your King is all about discipleship. (16) Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (17) Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:16-17
As Paul showed, as he writes about his discipleship: "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” (Galatians 2:20).
Discipleship is more than initial conversion and forgiveness, it is a lifelong commitment to Jesus. Notice again the great commission as recorded in Matthew 28:18-20: (18) And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (19) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Does this describe YOUR life? YOUR discipleship? Make sure that Jesus is the king in your life.
