Running With Endurance - Hebrews 12

Running With Endurance - Hebrews 12

 (1) Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (3) For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:1-3)

THEREFORE – read again the list of God’s faithful in chapter 11! The uniting principle is ‘BY FAITH’ – their faith, their trust not only in the promises of God but such was because the TRUSTED GOD. God is FAITHFUL!

We, in this life, will have our faith tested – time and again! Two things are needed by us: 1) lay aside anything and everything that is an obstacle to your trust in God. 2) lay aside ‘the sin’… I understand this to be the conclusion in vs. 3 – grow weary and lose heart. That is, our TRUST will be overthrown.

Doing this is what allows us to run with endurance.

Jesus endured by looked beyond the problems of THIS LIFE and the temptations and set his eyes upon the GOAL. This not only allowed him to endure both the hostility of sinners but also the shame of the cross.

Remember, when you grow weary in your struggle, it is time again to set your sight upon Jesus and the joy that awaits us!
