Remember His Words - Luke 24:1-6
It is hard to imagine what went through the minds of Jesus' friends after He was buried. They then had the whole evening, the next day, and the next evening to contemplate what this all meant. Their hope and dreams – had they died with Jesus? We didn’t even give him a proper burial! What are we going to do? Is it all over? Try to imagine what you would have talked about during this time!
Interestingly enough, it is the women who got up and responded in the only thing they could think of doing, go and give Jesus a proper burial. Then to hear: “Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” asked the men. “He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, saying, ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day’?” (Luke 24:5-6)
With this announcement comes the turning point of eternity! It is described by Paul as that which is ‘most important’ (1Cor. 15:3). It takes pages to list all that changed. Most importantly to each one of us is that it changed our lives. It produces hope in the face of condemnation for our sinful lives. It provides hope in the face of the coming death of the body. It gives us HOPE! It fills our desires and expectations with certainty.
All of the conversations that these women might have had, and NOW “… they remembered his words.” In the face of all of the uncertainties of life and the problems life brings, we must “remember His words.” Because of Jesus, we look forward to living in the presence of God forever! He lives! He Lives! Christ Jesus lives today!
Remember His words! “Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word.” “Tell them over again to me, Wonderful Words of Life!”
