Dead To Sin - Romans 6
Dead To Sin - Romans 6
Dead to sin. That was a major part of our conversion. Where you saved? (the often asked question). Why don’t people ask ‘did you die?’ Yes, we know that there was more involved for we also were made alive in Christ and this involved our sins being forgiven, the adopting us as His children, the being transferred into His kingdom, etc. BUT it definitely states that we died! We died to sin!
We died to sin (vs. 2). We have been baptized into His death (vs. 3) We were buried with Him through baptism into death (vs. 4). We were united with Him in the likeness of His death (5). The Old self was crucified (vs. 6) We have Died with Christ (8). “Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” ( vs. 11).
Way too many people have the attitude that sin doesn’t really matter as we are saved by the grace of God – thus there is little change in their life when they think they were converted / saved. Such change is the constant repetitious challenge in the New Testament. Sin can be and is forgiven, but it involves repentance – godly sorrow for having done it, confession of such sin, and prayer for forgiveness.
We obeyed the gospel and were then freed from sin (forgiven) (vs. 17). Thus, we became slaves of righteousness (vs. 18). We no longer present our body (our selves) as slaves of sin and impurity, but now we present ourselves as slaves to righteousness (vs. 19)
So, have you died?
