What Is The Bible?
What Is the Bible?
Brenden Ashby
As a Christian, you never outgrow the fundamentals. They are the foundation on which you build your faith. From time to time, it’s beneficial to go back and study a fundamental. One such fundamental is understanding what the Bible is.
The Bible is a revelation from God. If we are going to know anything about God, it will have to come from Him. So, the Bible is God’s self-disclosure to mankind (1 Cor. 2:9-10). Because God is the author of the Bible, we can trust that it is perfect (Jas. 1:25), complete (Jude 3), and it is able to equip us for God’s use (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
The Bible is also a guide to the good life. God tells us in His word that if we love life and want to see good days, we need to live according to His word (1 Pet. 3:10-12). After all, one reason God gave us the Bible is for our good (Ps. 19:7-14). This is also why the Bible contains everything necessary for life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3).
Ultimately, the Bible is a promise of eternal life. God gave us His word so we may know the seriousness of sin and our great need for a Savior (1 Cor. 10:6-11). The Bible also shows us Who that Savior is and how we may be forgiven of our sins (Jn. 20:30-31).
We have an amazing treasure in the Bible. It is God’s self-disclosure to His creation so we may enjoy this life and inherit the life to come.
