Peace, Perfect Peace
Peace, Perfect Peace
Brenden Ashby
We have come to the fruit of peace in our study of the fruit of the Spirit. Peace is a mystery for some, elusive for others, and a constant reality for the Christian. But how can that be? Let’s go to the Bible to find out how Christians can live in peace.
Biblical peace is the positive state of wholeness and spiritual prosperity that comes from being reconciled to God.
Jesus is the one who made this peace possible for us. His death makes peace possible between us and God (Rom. 5:1ff). Hence, the Apostles preached peace through Jesus Christ (Acts 10:36). Because Jesus is the author and source of our peace, nothing in this world can take away our peace with God (Jn. 16:33; Matt. 6:19-21).
Peace is the reality for Christians, but sometimes we do not experience the peace Christ has given us. So, how can I grow in the fruit of peace? First, pursue and maintain fellowship with God (1 Jn. 1:3,7). Jesus has made peace between God and me, and I need to keep that peace. Secondly, because I have peace with God, I need to pursue peace with God’s people (Eph. 4:3). Finally, I need to pursue prayer. The peace of God is directly linked to my thankfulness and prayer to Him for my every care (Phil. 4:4-7).
I can have peace, perfect peace, thanks to Jesus. And I can experience greater peace as I pursue the things that make for peace.
