Faith Is...
Faith Is ...
Brenden Ashby
What is faith? You might respond with belief. Others would say trust or conviction. Yet, all of these would be correct. This is because the Bible uses the word faith as a kind of catch-all word to describe various concepts that are essential to salvation and the Christian life. In order to have a fuller understanding of faith, let's consider some of those essential concepts.
In different contexts, we see that faith:
- Involves an element of belief (Rom. 4:3).
- Requires conviction of the truths believed (Heb. 11:1).
- Involves trust in the God who made us (Heb. 11:28).
- Includes allegiance to King Jesus (Acts 16:31).
- Is used to describe the transformation that happens as a Christian, “the righteous shall live by faith” (Rom. 1:16-17).
Biblical faith is an all-encompassing term that describes the radical transformation of our minds, affections, and actions.
Let us meditate on these truths as we seek to develop a deeper and more full understanding of the meaning and practice of faith.
